GSOC Spotlight: Kim Boyd

Kim Boyd PicKim Boyd, One Call Concepts, Inc. (OCC) General Manager for Gopher State One Call (GSOC), oversees and manages the daily operations of the GSOC notification center, while also working closely with registered facility operators. She enjoys partnering with the IT department to develop new and exciting technology for stakeholders. You may see Kim attending damage prevention meetings around Minnesota, as well as the annual Common Ground Alliance (CGA) Excavation Safety Conference and other industry-related events to stay updated on new technology and advancements in the field.

She has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in Psychology. Kim started working in the one call industry as a Customer Service Representative (CSR) in the Missouri notification center in 2000. She began working for OCC when they took over operations of the Missouri center in 2002. Throughout 2003-2015, Kim held other positions as a Fax Operator, ITIC Coordinator, and then National ITIC Coordinator. She relocated to Minnesota for the GSOC General Manager position, having nearly two decades of experience in the underground utility damage prevention industry.

Kim welcomes stakeholders to reach out to her with questions, ideas, and feedback. She is always interested in hearing new ideas and feedback from those who frequently use the one call system. GSOC is always looking for ideas to enhance their online tools to meet the everyday needs of their stakeholders. GSOC’s top priority is for users to create safe and accurate tickets each and every time.

Thanksgiving closures - Thursday, 11/22 and Friday, 11/23

We will be taking calls for emergency locates only on Thursday, Nov. 22nd and Friday, Nov. 23rd in observance of Thanksgiving, but remember, you can file a ticket online 24/7. NOTE: Thursday and Friday will not count towards your standard 48 hour notice when filing a locate, so please plan accordingly.

Late Fall/Winter Business Hours & Holidays

GSOC Late Fall and Winter Business Hours:

From November 1st to March 31st Gopher State One Call business hours are 7am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. Emergency calls are exempt from business hours and are always accepted. Please remember all non-emergency locate requests can be submitted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and are processed during GSOC’s business hours.

Veterans Day Holiday Observed – Plan Ahead:

On Monday, November 12, 2018, Gopher State One Call will observe Veterans Day. Keep in mind this day will not count toward the standard 48 hour notice needed when filing locate requests. Please also remember only emergency locate request calls will be accepted through the call center this day. All non-emergency locate requests can still be submitted online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Plan ahead and submit your locate requests early to account for this holiday. Gopher State One Call would like to thank all of the men and women who have served and serve our country!

Excavator Responsibilities

According to MN State Statute 216D, excavators are required to use white markings (paint, flags, whiskers, stakes, etc.) to define the entire proposed excavation area before filing a locate request, except where it can be shown it’s not practical. Once the excavation area is white-lined, contact Gopher State One Call (GSOC) 48 hours in advance, excluding weekends and holidays, before breaking ground. GSOC will then notify the affected facility operators who dispatch locators to mark their facility lines in the excavation area.
