Thanksgiving closures - Thursday, 11/22 and Friday, 11/23

We will be taking calls for emergency locates only on Thursday, Nov. 22nd and Friday, Nov. 23rd in observance of Thanksgiving, but remember, you can file a ticket online 24/7. NOTE: Thursday and Friday will not count towards your standard 48 hour notice when filing a locate, so please plan accordingly.

Late Fall/Winter Business Hours & Holidays

GSOC Late Fall and Winter Business Hours:

From November 1st to March 31st Gopher State One Call business hours are 7am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. Emergency calls are exempt from business hours and are always accepted. Please remember all non-emergency locate requests can be submitted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and are processed during GSOC’s business hours.

Veterans Day Holiday Observed – Plan Ahead:

On Monday, November 12, 2018, Gopher State One Call will observe Veterans Day. Keep in mind this day will not count toward the standard 48 hour notice needed when filing locate requests. Please also remember only emergency locate request calls will be accepted through the call center this day. All non-emergency locate requests can still be submitted online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Plan ahead and submit your locate requests early to account for this holiday. Gopher State One Call would like to thank all of the men and women who have served and serve our country!

Excavator Responsibilities

According to MN State Statute 216D, excavators are required to use white markings (paint, flags, whiskers, stakes, etc.) to define the entire proposed excavation area before filing a locate request, except where it can be shown it’s not practical. Once the excavation area is white-lined, contact Gopher State One Call (GSOC) 48 hours in advance, excluding weekends and holidays, before breaking ground. GSOC will then notify the affected facility operators who dispatch locators to mark their facility lines in the excavation area.

Locating Positive Response Information

Excavators have access to an easy-to-use online tool called Search & Status. Gopher State One Call (GSOC) recommends that users review it prior to commencing any excavation in the field. Using Search & Status, stakeholders can quickly find ticket and positive response information. With a few clicks, users can search the history or status of a ticket. You can also find specific tickets by narrowing your search criteria.

I've Damaged a Utility Line. Now What?

MN State Statue 216D defines “damage” as any impact to an underground facility. MN law requires that if damage occurs to an underground facility or its protective coating, the excavator shall promptly notify the affected facility operator. Only the facility operator is qualified to determine if damage requiring repair has in fact occurred.
